District Administration undertakes extensive drive to check the roadworthiness of vehicles

In accordance with the directions of the Chief Minister, The District Administration today launched an extensive drive as part of the statewide action to check roadworthiness of buses and other transport vehicles that are used for ferrying school children.Disclosing this here today, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Girish Dayalan said that the District Administration undertook this drive as a mission to ensure the safety of school children and nobody would be allowed to play with their lives. The Deputy Commissioner divulged that the drive was undertaken in Mohali, Derabassi and Kharar.The RTA Mr. Sukhwinder Kumar checked 25 vehicles out of which 11 were impounded while 14 were challaned. The SDM Kharar Mr. Himanshu Jain challaned 4 vehicles, ATO Simran Sra challaned 14 vehicles and impounded four. The SDM Mohali Mr. Jagdeep Saigal challaned 11 vehicles while one was impounded. The SDM Derabassi Mr. Kuldeep Bawa impounded 2 vehicles while issuing challans to 7.Not only this, the Traffic Police also undertook the challan drive. It is worth mentioning that the Safe School Vaahan Scheme Committee also checked the vehicles being used by the schools falling in the District and implored upon the managements to ensure that the vehicles used by them for ferrying school children are in top class condition with attendants having knowledge to use proper safety equipment which should be must in the vehicles.
