The School Education Department, in its mission to strengthen and build up educational edifice in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, has expended Rs. 74 crore under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.This was revealed by Commissioner Secretary School Education Department, Sarita Chauhan, during a review meeting regarding assessment of physical and financial progress of the department achieved under the scheme. The meeting was also attended by Director School Education Jammu, Anuradha Gupta; State Project Director Samagra Shiksha Arun Manhas; Director Planning School Education Department; Executive Engineers of School Education Department and other concerned officers of the department.State Project Director Samagra Shiksha, while giving a detailed breakup of the works done and the expenditure incurred thereof, informed that during the current fiscal about 10 girls hostels, 245 additional classrooms, 11 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidayalyas, 174 boundary walls and 217 toilet complexes have been constructed under the programme.Commissioner Secretary asked the Directors of School Education and Samagra Shiksha to prepare a list of schools where execution of works in terms of non-availability of land has not been taken up yet.She asked for constituting a Committee comprising Directors of School Education, Samagra Shiksha and Assistant Commissioner Revenue of the concerned districts to resolve the land issues, if any, to pave way for timely construction of approved works.She also directed the Executive Engineers of all the four Construction Divisions to provide the list of works which are fraught with land issues. She asked the Directors of School Education to get all the resolutions passed through Village Education Committees which are pending with them for execution of additional classrooms at the elementary level.Commissioner Secretary reiterated that the Panchayat Raj Institutions may be asked to resolve the land issues where ever possible besides instructing the concerned that during the formulation of Annual Work Plan & Budget 2020-21 the projections shall be supported with the land availability certificate by the concerned Chief Education Officers which should also match with Unified District Information on School Education (UDISE+).Sarita directed the officers to ensure completion of all the ongoing civil works in a time bound manner. The State Project Director Samagra Shiksha was further asked to take monthly review of civil works with the Directors of School Education and Planning  School Education for expeditious completion of these vital works aimed at bringing in a discernible change in the education sector of J&K.
