The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) today appealed to the farmers of Amritsar to vote for Capt Amarinder Singh as he was one of the very few leaders in the country who had given top priority and preference to the interests of the farmers.Addressing a press conference here today the BKU president Rakesh Tikait, who is also the son of legendary farmer leader Mohinder Singh Tikait, said that Capt Amarinder enjoyed a great reputation among the farmers at places as far as Uttar Pradesh where he was known to be a messiah for farmers. “I wish other Indian leaders could learn some lessons from him”, he remarked.

Among others present on the occasion included senior leaders including Yudhvir Singh, who is also the secretary general of the All India Jat Maha Sabha, Harpal Singh, Manmohan Singh, OP Mann and Harpal Singh Wadala.Tikait disclosed that Bikram Majithia’s family owned a number of mills in Uttar Pradesh and they owed Rs 51 crore to sugarcane farmers there. He warned that in case they did not make immediate payment to the farmers they will gherao and seize their factories.Appealing the farmers to vote for Capt Amarinder, he said, it will send a message across to everyone that the farmers also watch the interests of those who watch their interests.
