The District Development Commissioner, Budgam, Tariq Hussain Ganae today kick started weeklong ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ sanitation drive under slogan ‘Say no to plastic’ in the district. The drive was launched from DC office which was participated by huge gathering including sectoral officers and officials from concerned departments.A rally led by DDC Budgam accompanied by ADC Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, CEO, ACR, ACD, DPO, DIO, EO Municipality Budgam and displaying banners and plycards with slogans against use of polythene for safe environment was taken out. A cleanliness drive was also launched in the nearby parks, lanes, drains where participants’ enthusiastically collected the garbage, waste material and other non-biodegradable material.Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that the drive has witnessed massive response from all who volunteered to become part of this cleanliness drive. He said that the drive will continue till October 2nd to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti with more enthusiasm and force. He said similar sanitation drives will be launched at Sub District, Tehsil and Block levels. The DDC reiterated that the motive of the drive apart from cleanliness is also to encourage people to avoid use of non-bio degradable plastic material. He said we have to abide by the slogan ‘say no to plastic’ in letter and spirit and also discourage its use in any capacity.
