To sensitize the young girls about the significance of consuming nutritious diet daily, the district administration on Thursday organized an awareness seminar under Poshan Abhiyan in Government Polytechnic College for Girls, Ladowali road.The speakers including Dental Surgeon Dr Davinder Kaur, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Dr Gursimran Singh, KRM DAV College principal Mr Anoop Vats, Lecturer Dr Supriya and others detailed the gathering about Anemia and its reasons, impact and treatment.The experts made the girls aware of nutritious food or fruits, healthy eating habits, exercise, yoga, the right way of washing hand, and maintaining clean surroundings etc. They also asked the girls to take green vegetables, fruits, pulses, yogurt, milk, and cheese regularly for a sound body and asked to avoid empty calories foods.They added that the purpose of holding the event was to ensure consumption of nutritious and healthy diet by the girls so that they can protect themselves from anemia and malnutrition.Meanwhile, a debate competition was also organized in the college and first, second and third prizes were also distributed among the girls.They said that Poshan Abhiyan was aimed at achieving improvement in the nutritional status of children from 0-6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers.The Social Security, Women and Child Development Department, Skill Development Department, Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Local Government Department, Youth Services Department, Education Department, Agriculture Department, Health and Family Welfare Department, Water Supply and Sanitation Department are actively contributing in this campaign.
