Jalandhar , 25 Aug 2019

Setting a deadline to bring back life on track in the flood affected villages of Jalandhar, all the departments have been directed to pull up their socks for restoring normalcy in such villages, within a week, informed the official spokesman of Government of Punjab.Since the water is receding, the district administration needs to make a concrete plan for ensuring that life was put on normal mode in the coming seven days. The Deputy Director Local Government, Mandi Board and Rural Development departments are to ensure cleanliness in all the marooned villages. The sanitation and hygiene must be ensured to check the spread of diseases in the villages. In the meanwhile, Mandi Board and Rural Development Department is also required to make the necessary arrangements for immediate repair of roads in order to make them motorable. The Animal Husbandry department may locate the dead animals and ensure their early burial, said he.

Simultaneously, more fogging machines must be pumped in to check the spread of water borne disease and the Food and Civil Supply Department is to ensure the supply of potable drinking water to affected villages for next fortnight. Proper supply of fodder and cattle feed for the animals is also to be ensured by the concerned department. Likewise, he said that the PSPCL must embark a major drive to restore power supply at the earliest. It is pertinent to mention that the in a major relief to the marooned people of flood-hit villages in Shahkot sub-division, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has successfully restored the power supply in 11 out of 21 villages of the district on Sunday, including Gatti Raipur, Gatti Bakhsh, Kamaalpur, Jakkapur, Kakkar Kalan, Fatehpur, Nawan Pind Khalewal, Kang Khurd, Jalalpur, Sardarwala and Kotha. The electricity will also be restored in the remaining 10 villages as the water recedes further. Supply of 66 KV sub station Meharajwala  under Shahkot (Jallandhar ) which was effected due to floods has also been restored late in the evening.
