Kapurthala residents in thousands - young and old, and very old, both men and women - swarmed at the Guru Nanak Stadium to give a flying start to the "Kapurthala Run for Vote - Mini Marathon, 2019", a 5km run organized by the District Administration, Kapurthala in association with Sports Department, Punjab.The Deputy Commissioner DPS Kharbanda and District and Sessions Judge Kishore Kumar made it a point to take along senior citizens and veteran athletes including Ram Kumar, basketball coach, RCF and Major Dhyan Chand awardee in flagging off the run.Spirits of the participants in the run, organized as part of Systematic Voters ' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activity, which were already on a high, had sudden rush of adrenaline as Dalwinder Dyalpuri came to the stage and rendered live performance of his solo Punjabi number, Hunn Votan aayian, Jaag votra jaag Bai hunn votan aaiyan".  Senior citizens including two nonagenarians, Ram Singh, 98 and Hari Budh Singh, 90 and a octogenarian, Rup Rani Khosla, 80) couldn't stop themselves and danced with others to the accompaniment of beats of Dhol. This election-song was launched today.District Administration, Kapurthala launched video of another song, " Loktantra ka Teeka" (Mark of Democracy), for which the permission from ECI was received yesterday, at the mini-marathon on a LED put up inside the stadium Conceptualized by Rahul Chaba, ADC (General) and Shikha Bhagat, Asst. Commissioner (General), the song has been sung by Karan Dev Jagota and Tejinder Honey of Saanjh Kala Manch, while Sukhan Virdi has directed the video and Vivek Verma has provided music.The run started from Guru Nanak Stadium and passed through the major landmarks of the town including DC Chowk, PWD Rest House, Sainik School, the historical Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia Govt College, Darbar Hall and Bhoot Bangla before terminating at the stadium. Besides huge turnout of city residents, there was good participation from RCF, Military Station, LPU, Science City, PTU, various colleges and schools along with Arhtiyas, shopkeepers, NGOs, BSNL and others in the run. The DC thanked all the participants for making it to the mini-marathon, which he said shows citizen's resolve to the twin cause of good health and healthy democracy. He specially thanked the senior citizens, veteran athletes, Army men, and students for joining hands in this cause, while appealing that each one of us must make fitness regimen as part of daily routine as well as exercising one's right to vote in each election.
