Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said that after spreading the scourge of drug addiction across Punjab, the Akalis were now seeking to legalise this trade as they thought it would be a great money making business without caring that this will destroy the entire generation of Punjabi youth.Addressing a series of public meetings in villages Bachhiwind, Lopoke and Ohian in Raja Sansi assembly segment, Capt Amarinder referred to the recent statement of senior Akali leader and Faridkot MP Paramjit Kaur Gulshan in which she had said that she alongwith several Akali MLAs had met Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal demanding that the ‘bhukki’ (poppy husk) trade me legalised in Punjab and licences be issued for the same.

The former Chief Minister said, it only vindicated his and his party’s stand that the drug trade was being run under the nose of the Akalis. “Now an Akali MP has confirmed it herself”, he pointed out, while condemning such thinking which will only be a step towards devastation of the social fabric of the state. The Congress leader said, the Akalis have a design in it. “First they spread the drug addiction among the youth and made them dependent on drugs thus creating a demand for the drugs and now they are seeking the licence to trade in the drugs”, he said while lashing out at Akalis and seeking strict action against the MP and other MLAs. He warned that Congress will not allow this to happen come what may.He regretted that the greed for money among the Akalis continues to remain unsatiated and they do not even bother about the health of the youth. He promised that once the Congress government is formed he will hold each and every Akali accountable for his sins.Among others who spoke on the occasion included senior party leader and former Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh, local MLA Sukh Sarkaria, Jasbir Singh Dimpa, Gurjeet Aujla, Bua Singh Sandhu, Bibi Balwinder Kaur, Resham Singh and others.
