DC Kargil visits Drass, takes stock of post-snowfall situation

Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC Kargil Vikas Kundal on Saturday visited Drass and took stock of the situation in view of snowfall. During the tour, the DC chaired a meeting at Dak Bungalow Drass in order to ascertain the availability of essential commodities to the people besides the snow clearance plan.Superintendent of Police Dr Vinod Kumar, SDM Drass Pawan Kotwal, officers of the Civil and Police Administration besides officers of Vijayak were present in the meeting.Issues with regard to clearance of snow on the Kargil Drass highway, road from Drass to Matayen and the internal roads, availability of electricity, ration, drinking water, medicare and other essentials and issues pertaining to disaster preparedness were discussed threadbare.The DC directed the Vijayak authorities to immediately start snow clearance work on the Drass Matayen road and clear it for traffic on priority basis.The DC also met a number of public delegations and stranded passengers at Drass and assured them of immediate redressal of all their genuine demands. He directed the SDM to closely monitor the situation besides establishing a control room with helpline number.Meanwhile, the DC directed officers to ensure round the clock monitoring of the situation so as to deal with any possible exigencies.The DC has also impressed upon the officers to take lay immediate focus in the aftermath of snowfall like the restoration of power supply,inter and intra district road connectivity including highways, drinking water supply, dewatering of inundated areas, traffic management, operationalization of heating system in hospitals, ensuring adequate stock of LPG and Kerosene oil and heating and lighting arrangements for students in examination centres.
