California Eagles clinched Title of Global Kabaddi League by beating Haryana Lions by 63-43 in the finals at International Hockey Stadium here this evening. Twenty One days long Global Kabaddi League organized under the Punjab Governement’s Mission Tandrust Punjab at Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Mohali. Sports Minister, Punjab Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and Labour Minister Punjab Balbir Singh Sidhu gave away the prizes to the winners. During the closing ceremony Sports Minister said that this league was organized with an aim of motivating the youth towards sports so that they would remain safe from the menace of drugs. He divulged that along with other sports leagues State Government would organize a special cricket league for girls. Cabinet Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said that this was an important initiative that was taken under Mission Tandarust Punjab and for this he thanked Captain Amrinder Singh, Chief Minister of Punjab. He said that sports play an important role in saving the youth from the menace of drugs.
Before Finals Renowned Punjab Singer Amrit Mann entertained spectators with their songs. The winners bagged Rs One Crore and Trophy where as Runners up get Rs 75 Lakhs.Tough battle seen in the finals. In the first quarter California eagles was leading by 15-11. In the second quarter Haryana Lions bounced back at one stage they were leveled at 15-15. At the time of half time Haryana Lions was leading by 27-26. In the third quarter California boys bounced back, their raider Navjot Shankar and Stopper Amrit Aulakh changed the match. At the end of third quarter California Eagles was leading by 45-34. In the last quarter California Eagles consolidated. The finals score 63-43 in favour of California Eagles. For California Raider Navjot Shankar scored 20 points where Stopper Mangat Singh scored 6 points. For Haryana Ravi Deora scored 15 points. California Eagles’s raider Navjot Shankar declared best raider and their Stopper Amrit Aulakh declared best Stopper of the finals.MLA Fatehjung Singh Bajwa and Gurpreet Singh GP had also graced the occasion.
