20 officers/jawaans from Punjab Police to represent India in Asian Games

In the Asian Games to be held from 18th August in Jakarta (Indonesia) the 20 officers/jawaans of Punjab Police would represent India and showcase their skill in various sports. These 19 players and one coach are expected to perform to their full potential in 10 sports events.Extending his best wishes to all the players, the DGP, Punjab, Suresh Arora expressed strong hope of good performance from the players and said that it is a matter of great pride and elation for Punjab Police that its officers/jawaans are taking part in the biggest sporting extravaganza of the Asian continent. He also said that the Punjab Police apart from contributing towards the country in security aspect is also earning laurels in the sports sphere. Many players of the Punjab Police have won medals at the international level in the past and this time too would be no exception.

Giving details about the Punjab Police players going to participate in the Asiad, the Sports Secretary cum S.P. Olympian Bahadur Singh said that a maximum of 5 players including ASI Karamjit Singh, S.I. Harjinder Singh, S.I. Banita Sharma, S.I. Rajwant Kaur and S.I. Maninder Kaur are participating in the handball event. Then, 2 players each are participating in hockey, judo, Kabaddi, water sports, wrestling and volleyball. Out of these, Olympian DSP Manpreet Singh and DSP Olympian Akashdeep Singh are part of hockey squad whereas ASI Avtar Singh Olympian and Inspector Rajwinder Kaur are taking part in judo, ASI Randeep Kaur and Constable Maninder Singh are taking part in Kabaddi, Sub Inspector Navneet Kaur and Constable Harpreet Singh in water sports, Sub Inspector Harpreet Singh and Sub Inspector Gurpreet Singh in wrestling, Sub Inspector Ranjit Singh and Constable Gurinder Singh in volleyball, DSP Olympian Khushbir Kaur in Athletics, Sub Inspector Anjum Moudgill in Shooting and Inspector Sandeep Kumar as weightlifting coach.
