Senior Congress leader and Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh has assured action against the guilty cops who allegedly pushed a girl into drug addiction.In a statement issued here today, Rana said, during his visit to a women drug rehabilitation centre in Kapurthala along with the Health Minister Brahm Mohindra in Kapurthala on Tuesday, one of the inmates told him one police official of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police was responsible for pushing her into drugs.The former minister said, he assured the girl that proper investigation will be conducted and if found guilty, the particular cop will be given exemplary punishment.Rana maintained that the Capt Amarinder Singh government has effectively controlled the scourge of drugs during the last one and a half year. “I am not saying that the drugs have been completely wiped out from Punjab, but there is massive improvement as the supply of drugs is no longer easy as it used to be during the previous regime”, he said, while adding, drugs are no longer easily accessible or available in Punjab as these used to be during Akali-BJP government.He disclosed that the number of admissions in the rehabilitation centres has increased as the addicts prefer treatment that has been made available by the government. This, he added, is also the direct result of the effectiveness of the government in finishing the drugs from Punjab.Rana expressed grief over the loss of lives to drugs. At the same time he assured, the strict measures taken by the government have brought the situation under control.
