Grewal challenged Congress and AAP candidates . He said "They must be worried , It's obvious. The Iron Lady of Punjab is here to make there condition even more miserable". Grewal said involvement of Shmt.chawla makes this star studded contest a mere formality as Smt.Chawla holds an unmatched public support in urban and rural Amritsar constituency.
Grewal declared that this elections may well go down in history books as one of the single sided elections in modern india . People in Amritsar love her for her simplicity and her sense of justice .During her three terms as an MLA, she chose to stay at MLA Hostel rather than take a flat. Even when she was a minister, She lived in MLA Hostel so as to reduce unnecessary burden on state exchequer . she had been a staunch Activist fighting for Women and children rights from a very young age. In the 1970s, she led campaigns against bride burning . In the ’80s when Punjab was engulfed by terrorism, she drove her moped to newspaper offices, distributing press releases against militants – a rare act of courage those days. She was among the few BJP leaders who spoke out in favour of victims of terrorist violence, including Sikhs. Following her efforts, compensation was awarded to the victims.
Grewal said that Shmt. Laxmi Kanta Chawla also campaigned for and got a fair deal for mental hospital inmates in the state, many of whom had been abandoned by their families. Shmt. Chawla also took up the cause of poor children and started schemes whereby hundreds of children have been treated for congenital heart diseases, cancer and thalassaemia. Grewal said that there is feeling amongst the workers and voters as well that Shri Arun Jaitley is destined to win the Amristar seat and contribute in the development of Amritsar by bringing and utilising funds from the central goverment .
