In a first of its kind farmers seminar held at Amritsar, Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Suresh Kumar said that keeping in view the meager situation of farming community due to the stagnation in the agricultural sector, the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh cannot even think about to abolish the free power facility to the farmers.Today addressing the Farmer seminar here, Mr. Kumar said that the dire need of the hour was to save the underground water as well as to enhance the income of farming community by minimizing the production cost. He said that presently the Punjab Government is providing power subsidy to the farmers up to 6000 crore annually against the total crop production of Rs. 50,000 crore and in that case if the Government would slash the power subsidy than farming community would suffer huge economic set back.Advocating for invention of new techniques in agrarian sector, Mr. Kumar said that the crop diversification would be possible only if the farmers would get more price of their crop against the traditional crop pattern of wheat and paddy.Addressing the seminar, Chairman of PCCB Mr. Kahan Singh Pannu said that it is the right time for the farmers to become traders of their own crop production to enhance their earnings. He said that the agricultural department must approach the farmers at grass root level to provide much needed guidance to understand the national and international market trends. The seminar was also addressed by the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, GNDU VC Mr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Director extension PAU Dr. Jaskaran Singh, Bal Mukand Sharma  from MARKFED, agricultural scientist Ramdeep Singh, farmers avtar singh, Karambir Singh sidhu.Prominet amongst present on the occasion included asssiatant commissioner Alka Kalia, Shiraj Singh Ball.
