The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) while condemning the murderous assault on SAD candidate Jagbir Singh Sokhi and his supporters in Ludhina today, asked the State Election Commission (SEC) to take immediate action in the matter or the Ludhiana municipal corporation election would also also witness violence and booth rigging on the pattern of the Patiala corporation election. SAD spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema disclosed that he had informed the SEC about the incident and also informed that outsiders were moving freely in Ludhiana and that there was every likelihood of Congress workers resorting to goondaism on election day if not checked. Dr Cheema said he had also informed the Ludhiana deputy commissioner about the incident and asked him to take strict action against those responsible for it. The Akali leader said Jagbir Sokhi, who is the party candidate from Ward number 36, was attacked in Shimlapuri today. “Congress workers attacked his car with bricks and other weapons wreaking it completely and injured him and three of his supporters”. He said party workers had resorted to a dharma to ensure justice is done in the case. He urged the State Election Commission to tighten security arrangements to ensure free and fair elections are held in Ludhiana.
