DC calls for fire, safety audit of all Govt, Pvt buildings

Deputy Commissioner, Tariq Ahmad Zargar, today convened a meeting of concerned departments and agencies to discuss measures needs to be put in place during fire in crowded areas and also at government institutions.Threadbare discussion was held on many issues and deficiencies in government buildings like inadequate compartmentalization to prevent smoke and fire from one section to another, lack of smoke management system and unreliable fire management system besides discussed measures which are mandatory required for firefighting as per national building code for hospitals and educational institutions.The DC also constituted  Fire and Safety Audit Committee who in turn shall urgently examines all government building including hospitals and educational institutions in the district and submit a report within months time so that further necessary course of action shall be taken  in appropriate time.Further, the committee shall also focus on deficiencies in others fire safety measures at places, particularly with electrical installations besides methods of proper handling of other inflammatory items like petrol, kerosene oil and LPG etc.

The committee shall also take note of space and surface connectivity leading to the hospital and educational institutions so that fire tenders can reach to these important public places in case of fire.The committee members comprising of Executive Engineers PDD, PWD, AD Fire and Emergency Services, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer and AD Fire and Emergency Services will prepare checklist of these government buildings.DC instructed Committee members for fire and safety audit at all important buildings including in both private as well as government educational institutions i.e; college building, Gujjar hostel building, etc .Executive Engineers of PDD and PWD besides CMO, CEO, CPO, SO Fire and emergency department were also present in the meeting.
