Reviews pace of work on PMGSY road projects

A meeting of Sub-Committee of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on PMGSY roads (constructed/under-construction) was held here today under the Chairmanship of MLA Aijaz Ahmed Khan to review the progress achieved by the  Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) Department in the execution of the projects taken up under different phases of the flagship scheme .Reviewing the pace of progress on the ongoing PMGSY road projects, the Committee directed the concerned authorities to set deadline for each project and ensure completion within the stipulated time frame.Legislators, Pawan Kumar Gupta and Ghulam Nabi Monga- the committee members gave valuable suggestions on improving the functioning of the PMGSY department. They asked the department to put in extra efforts to ensure that the flagship scheme meet the objective of expanding road connectivity to every habitation of the state, especially in rural areas.The Committee directed the concerned authorities to clear all the pending issues regarding land compensation, NoC by Forest department, land disputes to avoid unnecessary in the completion of the  road projects.  

The Committee also stressed upon the concerned authorities to enforce responsibility in the department and make the officers   accountable for timely completion of the road projects taken up in their jurisdiction. The Committee sought present status report of all ongoing projects and asked for submission of the same to the Assembly Secretariat before the next meeting of the Committee.Commissioner Secretary, PWD Sanjeev Verma, Chief Engineer, PMGSY Kashmir, Malik Basharat and Chief Engineer Jammu S P Manhas briefed the Committee about the pace of progress, physical and financial status of the road projects through a power point presentation.   The Committee also informed about the status of the road projects taken up under different phases of PMGSY scheme,   habitations to be covered and the number of projects completed, besides projects held up due to delay in payment of land compensation.The meeting was also attended by Development Commissioner, (W) Bimal Tickoo, Director Finance, PWD, G M Khan, Chief Engineer, R&B Jammu, Sudheer Shah, Chief Engineer, R&B Kashmir, A H Sheikh, Chief Engineer, MED, Kashmir, Vijay Raina, Chief Engineer, MED, Jammu Amresh Raina, SEs, Executive Engineers, AEEs and other senior officers of concerned department and Assembly.
