The Local Government Department, Punjab, under the guidance of the Local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, is conducting various capacity building initiatives for cities throughout the state so that they are fully prepared and empowered to perform well in the 'Swachh Survekshan' survey to be conducted in January-February 2018 in which cities across the country would be ranked on various sanitation and cleanliness parameters. Each Urban Local Body (ULBs) has been given a survey toolkit which contain the total information regarding how the survey will be conducted and how each city will be evaluated.Disclosing this, a spokesman of the department said that a workshop on Swachh Survekshan 2018 was held at Punjab Municipal Bhawan, here today to educate all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of Punjab and for Chandigarh city. It is to be noted that the Swachh Survekshan 2016 was conducted among 73 top cities of India followed by Swachh Survekshan 2017 covering 434 AMRUT cities (16 in Punjab). Emboldened by the success of the initiative, the third round of Swachh Survekshan would be conducted in January-February 2018, covering all 4041 statutory towns in India.The workshop was attended by Mr. Satish Chandra Additional Chief Secretary (Local Government), Mr. Ajoy Sharma CEO, PMIDC, all Commissioners, Municipal Corporations of Punjab Regional Deputy Director, Mr. B.Purushartha, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, the councilors of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh and others. The workshop was conducted by officials of Ministry of Urban Development. After the workshop all delegates were subjected to a test to assess the assimilation aspect. The person who scored the highest marks , E.O., Sanaur, was given an award of Rs.5000/-, and the second  winner, E.O., Sunam and Medical officer Pathankot, was given an award of Rs.3000/-each.
