Instructions regarding maintenance of National Flag’s dignity issued

Punjab Government has issued instructions to ensure and maintain the respect and dignity of the National Flag. In this regard, a copy of the letter issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India along with ‘Flag Code of India, 2002’ have been sent to all the Division Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of the state asking them to further issue needed instructions to their subordinate officers and employees that strict action would been taken against concerned official/ individuals/organizations in case of any violation of the flag code. Special cautions to be followed while unfurling the National flag, using National Flag, flagging National Flag with other countries flag and saluting the National flag are highlighted in these instructions.Divulging further, an official spokesman said that instructions have been issued to ensure that flags made of paper only would be used on the occasions of important national, cultural and sports events and such paper flags should not be discarded or thrown on the ground after the event. As per instructions, such flags are to be disposed of, in private, consistent with the dignity of the flag.
