Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice, Abdul Haq said the government is planning to adopt an eco-friendly mechanism of waste management in rural areas and sought public support in making it success to make Kashmir valley clean and healthy again.Addressing a large gathering of people after distributing cheques under Swach Bharat Mission, Minister said cleanliness guarantees a healthy life and appealed people to help government in making the valley a paradise in real sense. He said even religion teaches us to keep our surroundings clean while in Islam cleanliness is referred as prerequisite of the faith.Abdul Haq said that the government will soon adopt a mechanism at Panchayat level for waste management. HE said government is aiming to change the attitude of people to segregate waste at its origin and to treat them accordingly. He said government will assist and train people at village level min making organic manure out of the waste produced in homes that will help in waste management and will also encourage people to use organic manure made manures in their fields instead of manures full of chemicals which are harmful for human consumption.

He said it will be the logical way to address the issue of waste management. He said waste generated even in rural areas has adversely impacted the ground water and the quality of the air around the waste dumps which is becoming a challenging task. He calls for a need to change the habits of people, in which they become the agents of change from each family by performing the duty or dharma of segregation of waste.While seeking support of the students for the mission, the Minister said the students can be the best ambassadors of the clean J&K and appealed them not to throw waste on road side and instead use dustbins for dumping the waste.He said no one except the inhabitants of the valley itself can save the beautiful valley of Kashmir from getting destroyed by literring waste including polyethene all around.Earlier the Minister distributed cheques to the tune of Rs.4.61 crore among 3842 beneficiaries under SBM component at a function organized by the RDD, PRI at Tourist Reception Centre, Kupwara.

Abdul Haq also highlighted the progress achieved under different sectors in the district under the guidelines of various schemes and stressed on implementation of these schemes in letter and spirit so as the concerned beneficiaries get benefited by these schemes.He also impressed upon the beneficiaries for utilizing the amount approved by the district administration through rural Development Department/PRI under various schemes be utilized judiciously for this purpose the infrastructure be raised within the budgetary limits for execution of the units.The Assistant Commissioner, Development Kupwara briefed the Minister about the overall developmental scenario of the district carry out by the RDD/PRI.The Officers of district administration, beneficiaries on the occasion were present.Later, several public deputations met the Minister at his official residence and apprise him about their issues, problems and demands. The Minister assured the deputations that their genuine demanded would be resolved pace mannerly as per their requirements and needs.
