DIPR organizes awareness, cultural programmes to mark World No Tobacco Day

Department of Information and Public Relations today organized various programs    to mark the World No Tobacco Day .Awareness cum cultural programmes were organised to spread awareness about harmful effects of tobacco consumption and encourage tobacco free living for better health.At Jammu the events were organized at  Bal Niketan Ambphalla, Rajinder Park and Green Belt Park where the participants were made aware about the ill effects of tobacco.A Samba an informative interactive session   cum cutural programmes was organised in collaboration with Block development office  at Panchayat Katli.Dr Mehvash and Dr Monika Kumari informed the gathering on diseases, health and financial hazards associated with tobacco consumption. They urged the people that on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, a pledge should be adopted to shun  use of tobacco and tobacco products for  a healthy lifestyle.Among others Block Development officer Malavika Sharma, Information officer, Sana Khan and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.At Ramban, District Information Centre  organized a symposium   on “TABACCO-A THREAT To DEVELOPMENT” at Government Girls High School .

Speakers highlighted the  signs and symptoms of diseases due to tobacco  with views on checking  its  use .Skits alongwith songs related to the subject were  presented by the students and local artists.The function concluded with the pledge by the participants to make every day a  no tabacco day.At Reasi, District Information Centre organised a symposium at  Government High School Pattian.Students, teachers and people in large number were present on the occasion.In the symposium, the students expressed their valuable inputs to eradicate menace of tobacco from the society by highlighting the life threatening consequences of tobacco.Chief guest on the occasion, DIO, said that use of cigarette and other tobacco products should be discouraged by generating awareness among  youth.At Kathua,  a theme based program depicting the ill effects of tobacco was organised at DIC .Cultural items were presented by the department with an aim to create awareness about ill- effects of smoking  and to create positive influence resulting in abstenance of smoking by smokers.At Doda, An awareness rally organised in collaboration with health department was flagged off by  Medical Officer Doda Dr. Wajid Ali   in which more than 200 students from Govt Boys and Girls Higher Secondary and ANMT School Doda participated. The students were holding  placards depicting harmful effects of tobacco consumption. Besides, painting competitions and awareness camps were also held in all the blocks as well as district Hospital Doda.The rally of school students went round the market to make people aware about the ill effects of tobacco and urged the people to make the district smoke/tobacco free and healthy.An awareness camp on the theme "tobacco-a threat to development” was also held at district hospital Doda where experts from the medical field threw light on importance of this day. The speakers also highlighted the effects of tobacco use on health .Dr Zia Shokat Mughal and Dr Rehana also delivered lectures  in Govt HSS boys and Girls Doda and spread the message of making every day a World No Tobacco day.

CMO Doda Dr. Wajid Ali Najar, MS DH Doda Dr. M.A. Tariq, Dy MS DH doda Dr. Rehana,  DPO Mental Health programme Dr Zia shokat, Health Educator Mohd Shafi itoo, In-charge Govt ANMT School Doda Ayaz Ahmed, In-charge NCD Dr Mohd Faheem besides Teachers, students were present on the occasion.At Udhampur, DIC in collaboration with Legal Services Authority  organized a Legal awareness camps at Charisallian Udhampur  to mark the "World No Tobacco Day".Judicial Magistrate Udhampur Sushil Singh, who is also the chairman of DLSA was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the chief  guest highlighted the various health risks associated with the use of tobacco. He said that the basic objective of organizing the programme is to aware the people about the ill effects  of smoking and various health hazards associated with it.Retainer Lawyers, Pawan Gupta and Yasmeen also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the harmful effects of Tobacco.Among others, NT Balwant Singh,Advocate Pawan Gupta, Advocate Yasmeen  Panchayat Secretary RDD Surbhi Sharma, and Officials of Information Department and  large number of prominent citizens were present on the occasion.An awareness rally by students of ANMT school was also flagged off by Dr.Arun Mahajan in presence of Medical Superintendent District Hospital Narinder Bhatial. Students held banners in their hands and educated the masses about the various diseases  like Cardiovascular diseases, Caveer, Chronic,Obstructed Pulmonary diseases  caused by tobacco. A Nukad Natak was also presented by the students on the occasion.At Poonch, a cultural programme and symposium  on the topic   "harmful effects of tobacco in society " was organised at Balashram .While speaking on the occasion the speakers sensitized the participants about ill effects of tobacco products and exhorted the need of active participation of all stakeholders to check its use.Skits  were also presented on the  theme for  generating awareness about various deadly disease caused by  use of tobacco
