Strongly condemning the massive army operation against civilian population in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, use of brute force against students in north Kashmir’s Sopore, and nocturnal arrests in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, the incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Thursday termed it the “height of oppression and barbarism”.In a statement issued to KNS, Shah while condemning the launching of massive operation by army in 12 villages of Shopian district said though people of Kashmir have been facing such state-sponsored terrorism from last 7 decades but the ruling class has been frustrated after facing people’s boycott of recently held sham elections.“Now, the so-called administration has waged a war against the people particularly youth. Even helicopters have been hovering over the cordoned areas. This is a declaration of war against innocent civilians,” he said.

Slamming authorities for unleashing a reign of oppression on people and students in Budgam and Sopore, Shah said on one hand, army is being given a free hand to harass people and on other side, police is pushing our youth and students to the wall by arresting them.Shah warned authorities of serious repercussions if such barbarism is not stopped and termed it intolerable the ruining of career of students. On the continuous concern shown by United Nations and United States over the situation in Kashmir, Shabir Ahmad Shah urged the world powers to rise above statements and play a practical role towards resolving the longstanding dispute. The DFP chairman said the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan have always called for resolving this issue through tripartite talks or implementation of UN resolutions but India is continuously showing stubbornness and finding excuses to run away from dialogue process.“If world leadership doesn’t take immediate steps towards the resolution of Kashmir dispute, the region may become the reason for the third world war which will engulf the whole world,” Shah added.
