Financial Commissioner Agriculture Production Department (APD), Pramod Jain, chaired the meeting of State Level Project Monitoring Committee (SLPMC) of Sericulture Development Department here today.The FC reviewed the projects planned for development of Silk Industry in the state with the support of Central Silk Board (CSB).Director Sericulture, Malik Farooq, apprised the meeting of the physical and financial achievements of the department under various components of centrally sponsored   schemes. He informed that department of sericulture has taken various initiatives for uplift of this vital sector so that the silk industry is developed on sustainable basis.It was informed that  during the current financial year 973 MT of cocoon production was recorded thus registering an increase of  3%  than last year and out of which 145 MT raw silk  was produced. Under Institute Village Linkage Program (IVLP), Central Sericulture Research and Training Instiute (CSR&TI) has adopted 100 cocoon farmers in the vicinity of the institute at Pampore.It was also informed that two separate projects for SC/ST families associated with the sericulture sector are in offing.While speaking on the occasion, Financial Commissioner stressed upon the officers to put in strenuous efforts to optimally achieve the set targets under various schemes .He stressed on sustainable development of the sericulture sector in the state making it an economically viable activity.Nodal Officer North-Western States CSB, Scientist –D, Dr. R.S.Teotia, Director Central Sericulture Research Institute (CSRTI) Kashmir, Dr. Babu Lal,  Joint Director Regional Sericulture Research Station (RSRS) Jammu, Dr. Sardar Singh , Scientist- C, Silk Conditioning and Testing House (SCTH) Jammu, Director Planning (APD) Hans Raj Bhaghat, besides other officers of the department were also present in the meeting.
