Opposition National Conference (NC) President and former chief minister, Farooq Abdullah Monday said the ongoing unrest in Kashmir is actually a “peoples’ movement” who are in the pursuit of demanding their long pending rights. He said Kashmir issue is not the creation of Abdullah, but an issue that stands unresolved since 1947.“I never speak anti-national, but let’s admit that Kashmir is an unresolved issue since 1947. It is pending in the United Nations Security Council. Even Shimla Agreement makes it clear that Kashmir issue will be addressed through dialogue between India and Pakistan. One day both the countries have to talk and resolve this outstanding issue,” he said.Throwing his weight behind the united Hurriyat leadership, who are spearheading the present unrest, Abdullah said it is not about whether “he is with or against the Hurriyat”, but they are with the people in the “ongoing movement”.

According to KNS correspondent, Abdullah said, “NC was always with the people of the state. We are with you and not against you. We have given our entire lives for this movement. People are demanding their rights and NC is with the people in this movement.”Farooq said this while speaking to media on the sidelines of party workers function at the mausoleum of his father and former chief minister Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah on his 111st birth anniversary.Earlier in his speech, Farooq Abdullah asked NC workers to stand united, move ahead and take this movement forward. “We are with you. We can’t be free until we are united. I am telling NC workers not to stay away from this ongoing movement,” he added. (KNS)
