Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J), called on Governor N.N. Vohra, Chancellor of the University, at the Raj Bhavan here today.Dr. Sharma briefed the Governor about the important academic activities (Oct-Nov, 2016) including: organization of Vet festival by the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry at RS Pura Campus (21-25 Nov. 2016); one day farmers awareness camp on “Fasal Beema Yojna” at KVK Kathua (9 Nov, 2016) and similar camp on “Protection of Plant Varieties & Farmers’ Rights Act” organized by KVK Kathua in village Bani (26 Nov. 2016). He also informed about ASSOCHAM’s Agri and Food Processor’s conclave-Finance, Technology and Market which was held at Chatha in the month of October this year and his visit to review the activities at the research Station and KVK Bhaderwah.The Governor was also informed that a Training Center has been sanctioned under the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Unnat Krishi Yojna and shall be established at village Talwara under KVK Reasi to undertake training programmes for capacity building and skill development in organic agriculture.The VC also informed the Governor about the progress of ongoing construction work of Auditorium, Boys’s hostel and Dvigarti Guest House at Chatha.The Governor advised the Vice Chancellor to take sustained initiatives for boosting research and extension activities; securing visible improvement in t he production and productivity levels and ensuring efficient functioning of all the KVKs under the University. The Governor also stressed the VC to focus on the need for enhanced interaction with farmers to enable them benefit from the latest agricultural technology and practices being developed by the University.
