Taking strong exception to the protest demonstrations held at Srinagar’s press enclave by some transporters against continues strikes, Kashmir transporters Welfare Association on Thursday said the association shall abide every call given by the joint resistance leadership.“Kashmir transporters Welfare Association are the only representative body of transporters in Valley but there were few drivers who have held protests against continuous hartals. We want to clarify that we don’t know them and we have no information about their background,” says Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf- association’s general secretary in a hurriedly called press conference.Flanked by other transporters, Yousuf said that there is no question of asking the Hurriyat leadership to call off strikes. “What answer we will give to the families of slain youth and to those who have lost their eye sight in the ongoing unrest. Are we so selfish that we will ask for ending of the strike?,” says association’s chairman, adding that Kashmir’s transporters will continue to abide by the programs issued by the joint resistance leadership and will accord its full support to the present ‘movement’.He added that if some transporters are facing any economic problems, they should approach the association and shouldn’t come on roads and defame the entire spectrum of transporters.
