Shiromani Akali Dal MP from Anandpur Sahib and party General Secretary Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra today demanded that the system of election of two Sikh MPs on the management board of Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib at Nanded must be restored immediately. He said this was the provision in the Act under which this Board was constituted.Raising the sensitive issue in the Lok Sabha during Zero hour, he slammed the change in the system without amending the Act by the Maharashtra Government that had nominated two Sikh representatives at its own against the MP quota.Prof. Chandumajra said as per the legislation governing this body, two Sikh MPs are to be elected by the Sikh members of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha for Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib Board. However, the Act was not being followed presently by the Maharashtra Government. He said earlier, it was the Congress that used to adopt the policy of dividing the Sikhs. He cited the example of the creation of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to restrict the jurisdiction of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. He described it as anti-Sikh move.Prof. Chandumajra urged the Narendra Modi government to assure the implementation of the Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib Management Board Act in letter and spirit and restore this right of the Sikh MPs that is being denied to them.
