Capt Amarinder asks Mr Badal whether his Akali Dal is a secular or a religious party

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today asked the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to explain whether his Shiromani Akali Dal was a secular or a religious party and whether it is not a fact that the party has two constitutions, one for the Election Commission of India and the other for Sikh Gurdwara Election Commission and whether it did not establish his characteristic double standards in politics.

“Since you have been saying it yourself that this is your last election you must reveal to the people of Punjab the real character of your party and wash your conscience off of the double standards you have maintained all through your political career”, he asked Mr Badal, in his second question to Mr Badal today.

He pointed out, while fighting the SGPC elections, the Akali Dal claims itself to be a religious/panthic party, and while contesting the assembly or parliamentary elections it claims itself to be a secular party. “Mr Badal always carries two constitutions in his pocket and takes out the one he needs at a particular place and a moment while hiding the other”, he remarked.

Asserting that this was characteristic of Akali Dal and Mr Badal to have double standards, he said, they have no qualms in altering their principles and standards according to their own convenience and they do it so conveniently while fighting the elections to SGPC or the assembly and parliament.

Capt Amarinder said, Mr Badal had been using one institution for grabbing the other and vice versa. He pointed out, he used his influence with the National Democratic Alliance to disenfranchise 62 lakh Sikh voters from the SGPC as he feared that they might vote against his party. And similarly he has been misusing SGPC funds and resources during the assembly and parliamentary elections.
