New Delhi (IANS) , 02 Jan 2014

A law student Thursday withdrew his plea for registering a case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly lowering the reputation of parliament. The plea was filed in a Delhi court by Vibhor Anand, who sought directions from the court to register a case against Kejriwal, yoga guru Baba Ramdev and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member and lawyer Prashant Bhushan.

Anand said Kejriwal made an objectionable speech at a rally in Ghaziabad in February 2012, with malafide intention to lower the reputation of parliament. He said in his plea that Kejriwal had committed penal offences of sedition and criminal intimidation.

Now impressed by Kejriwal's working style as the chief minister, Anand told IANS Thursday he has withdrawn his petition against the AAP chief. He said he did not want the chief minister to face any legal barrier which can interrupt the smooth functioning of the government.Anand told Metropolitan Magistrate Purshotam Pathak that Kejriwal was doing a wonderful job as chief minister and working very hard to fulfill the promises made to the people of Delhi. He requested the court to allow him to withdraw the complaint, saying he did not want to pursue the matter. The court allowed him to withdraw his plea. The court, however, posted the complaint against Bhushan and Ramdev for Feb 26 for further hearing.Anand, whose NGO based in West Patel Nagar in central Delhi provides legal aid to people, pleaded for registering a case of sedition against Bhushan for his remarks on Kashmir made Sep 26, 2011.He requested the court to lodge a case against Ramdev on charges of sedition and statements amounting to public mischief.According to Anand's petition, Ramdev had said parliamentarians were friends and slaves of money.
