Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand   declared open the 59th National School Games in Volley Ball (Boys and Girls U14 years) at MAM stadium, here today.Minister of State for School Education, Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Science & Technology and I T Feroz A. Khan presided over the national level function.The five day sports tournament is being organized by the department of Youth Services and Sports. As many as 42 teams with 502 participating girls and boys are participating in the mega event.Director General, Youth Services & Sports Naveen Aggarwal, Secretary, Youth Services & Sports department Parvez Malik, senior officers of the department, prominent citizens, sportspersons and delegates from all across the country attended the opening event.While felicitating the participants, the Deputy Chief Minister appreciated the enthusiasm of sportspersons who are attending the national event from across the country. He said the event would not only provide a platform to the budding players for showcasing their talent but would prepare them for future international level participations.“All accolades are due to these young sportsmen” he said and added “Besides ensuring a successful tournament the department should also organize local tours of historical places for the participants so that they act as brand ambassadors for the state,” he added.Appreciating the overwhelming participation in the event, Feroz Khan said winning or losing are integral part of sports but participation has equal importance, adding that playing with sportsman spirit and giving one’s best is what sports stand for.In his welcome address, the Director General briefed about the prestigious mega sports event and detailed the efforts put in by the department to organize the national games on such a large scale with the participation of record number of teams.
