The Kandi area of the state will soon don a modern look as the Punjab Government has approved a comprehensive plan for the overall development of this region. The Punjab Government has decided to develop this area as a 'hub of food processing industry'. The Kandi Area Advisory Council has also been reconstituted with Chief Minister as its chairman. This council has fixed a timeline for the overall development of this backward area. It was disclosed by Chief Parliamentary Secretary  Sohan Singh Thandal in a statement to the press, here today.He said that the discriminatory policies of the successive Congress governments in the state were responsible for creating regional imbalances in Punjab as the Kandi area of the state has lagged far behind than the other areas in the terms of overall development and prosperity. He said that considering the long pending demand of the natives of Kandi area the state government has reconstituted the Kandi Area Advisory Council with Chief Minister  Parkash Singh Badal as its Chairman and Deputy Chief Minister  Sukhbir Singh Badal as Member.He said that realizing education, as the most important aspect for development of this backward region, the Punjab government had already laid special emphasis to impart quality education to the students of Kandi area.Thandal said that the state government was also focusing on developing the Kandi area as the 'hub of food processing industry' for which a comprehensive plan has been approved by government. He said that the farmers of this area would soon become trendsetters by availing the modern techniques and facilities of food processing and they would be able to ensure optimum utilization of their products like Mango, Mausami, Orange, Amla and others herbs.While describing the irrigation facilities being provided by the state, the CPS said the government has adopted a far reaching approach to strengthen the rivers’ embankments. He said that in order to strengthen the Dhussi Dam on river Beas the work is in progress and the state government has already released Rs.46 crore to the irrigation department for this task.
