Scores of parents Saturday staged a protest outside a Private School accusing school authorities of resorting to loot in the name of education. The parents said that school authorities of ‘Kashmir Model Academy’ (KMA) located at Gazaliabad HMT has been forcing them to purchase the study material from the school itself and not from the market. “A single book comprising of 15to 20 pages for class 2nd or 3rd cost us more than Rs 500. We are being asked to pay Rs 60 for a single black and white Syllabus page. The irony is that no parent is allowed to go for the Photostat of the syllabus copy but is forced to procure the copy from the school,” the parents told CNS.“I procured a syllabus copy for Rs 60 for my ward and was intending to do Photostat of the same for my nephew for Rs 2. I was not allowed to do so but was forced to pay Rs 60 for another copy. This is simply cheating. The School is always finding ways and means to fleece poor parents,” said Ishfaq Ahmed.

They said that school is looting parents in the name of education. “We are forced to purchase unnecessary material from the school. This school is violating all the norms and even defying the orders of the Education Minister who recently prohibited private schools from selling study material to parents,” they said.A school official told CNS that it is the policy of the school and they can’t change it. “We don’t force parents to admit their wards in our school. They have to follow the rules and regulations of the school,” he said wishing not to be named.Despite repeated attempts both the Minister and Director Education were not available for the comments.
