Senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has expressed deep concern on the plight of the states’ youth, who have been suffering for decades together. In a statement to KNS, Tarigami urged the state government to analyze the situation responsible for the unrest of the youth in Kashmir.“Calling them wayward and misled is neither correct nor helpful in addressing the problems our younger generation,” he said.Referring to the recent killing of a Zainkote youth in security forces’ teargas shelling, Tarigami urged the state machinery to exercise utmost restraint while dealing with the law and order situation.

“Due to political uncertainty, conflict environment and huge unemployment, our youth are disillusioned and in today’s environment of hopelessness resort to protests. The administration should however avoid the use of excessive force.”He said the government should frame a comprehensive youth policy which must focus on the redressal of their grievances, professional training, sports facilities and of course employment.“Interaction, discussion and consultation should be adopted to address their alienation; lathicharge, tear gas shelling, firing and arrest are not an option. Imprisonment, torture and killing of youth will prove counterproductive and will spoil the future generation on which our hopes rest,” he warned. (KNS)
