A day after Minister for Health and Medical Education, Choudhary Lal Singh ordered constitution of a five member panel to look into mushrooming of un-registered private hospitals and nursing homes in Kashmir valley, it has come to fore that one of the members of the constituted committee is himself running an ‘unregistered’ nursing home in the heart of the Srinagar city.The five member committee will be headed by the Project Director, J&K AIDS Control Society, Dr Saleem-Ur-Rehman.  Other members of the committee include, Medical Superintendent, GB Panth Hospital, Dr Shafqat Khan, Deputy Director Health Services (HQ) Kashmir, Dr Karim, Medical Superintendent, B&J Hospital, Srinagar, Dr Abdul Rasheed Badoo, representatives from civil society including Enterpreneur Umer Tramboo and journalist, Shuja-Ul-Haq.

Owners of a group of nursing homes told CNS that although they welcome the order issued by the Health Minister but at the same time they fail to understand how a person was chosen as a members who two sons run an unregistered orthopedic centre. “Recently when government sought documents from the said Orthopedic centre, the owner brought a stay from court, forcing the government to delay the process of verification,” they said and appealed Health Minister to nominate members of great character.When contacted the said member said member told CNS that the Orthopedic Centre is not run by him but by his son.
