The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, that met hereSaturday for the Autumn Session paid rich tributes to Dr. A. P. J Abdul Kalam, Former President of India and former legislators of the State who passed away between the last budget session and current autumn session of the State Legislature.Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali while speaking on the obituary reference, paid rich tributes to Dr. A. P. J Abdul Kalam. He said Dr. Kalam’s contribution in the field of science has given unique name to India in the world. He said Former President is an inspiration for the scientists of the country and the student’s community.

Haji Anayat also paid rich tributes to the Ex-Legislators of the State. Giving details of the political background of the former legislators, the Chairman said that all the members during their political career have tirelessly worked for the welfare of the people and development of the State.The Ex-legislatures remembered in the House include Mir Ghulam Mohammad Poonchi, Ex-Legislator, Mr. Abdul Gani Shah (Veeri), Ex- Legislator, Khawaja Sonaullah Dar, Ex- Legislator, Mr. Janak Raj Gupta Ex-MP, Ghulam Mohammad Misgar, Ex- Legislator, Mr. Vir Chand Mahasha Ex-MLC, Mtr. Farida Mir Ex-MLC.Deputy Chairman LC, Jehangir Hussain Mir while paying tributes to the departed leaders said that the contribution of Ex-Legislators for the upliftment of the downtrodden sections of the society and the development of the State will be remembered for a long time to come.   

Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh while speaking on the obituary reference paid tributes to Ex-President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He said Dr. Kalam was known as ‘People’s President’. He said coming from a humble background Dr. Kalam was a renowned scientist and acclaimed teacher and contributed immensely in the field of science and technology. Known as Missile Man of India, he said Dr. Kalam is also known as a prolific writer, with various books to his credit.The members who spoke on the obituary reference include Ali Mohammad Dar, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Ramesh Arora, Jugal Kishore, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Sjjad Ahmed Kichloo, Surinder Ambardar, Dr. Bashir Ahmed Shah Veeri and Naresh Gupta.The House also condoled the demise of Hajjis in the Mina stampede and expressed grief and shock over the recent killings by unknown gunmen in Kashmir including the heinous murder of a 3-year old child at Sopore.Later, a two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect for the deceased President of India and Legislators of the State.
