A meeting of Departmental Related Standing Committee (DRSC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council was held today under the Chairmanship of MLC, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo to review the functioning of PHE and I&FC Department.

Members of the Committee Mr. Showkat Hussain Ganai, Mr. Jugal Kishore and Mr. Javaid Ahmed Mirchal were also present in the meeting and gave their valuable suggestions.

  Secretary Irrigation and Flood Control Department gave a detailed presentation on the functioning of the department. He said during the last financial year an amount of Rs. 477.91 Crore was earmarked by the Government of India under the NRDWP scheme against which Rs. 474.41 Crore have been received during the year under various components of NRDWP. He said a Water Resources Regulatory Authority (WRRA) has been setup in the state to ensure judicious and optimum utilization of states water resources.

Secretary further informed the Committee that to address future flood challenges, 2 new projects, one for River Jhelum  costing Rs 2200 crore and another for River Chenab costing Rs 2314 crore have been submitted to Centre for sanction under the Flood Management Programme (FMP).Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, all Chief Engineers, all Superintendent Engineers and Xens of Irrigation and Flood Control Department besides officers of the Council Secretariat were present in the meeting.
