Minister for Health and Medical Education, ARI and Trainings, Choudhary Lal Singh on Thursday said government wouldn’t compromise on discipline and sanitation in state-run hospitals.“I will not spare anyone who is involved in creating indiscipline in government hospitals,” Mr Singh told doctors and paramedics during an early morning visit at pediatric tertiary care facility - GB Pant Hospital here.“How would a patient or an attendant know who is he getting treated with. There has to be name plates, proper dress code and proper sanitation in the hospitals,” he said.The minister inaugurated the 30-bed causality ward at the hospital and hoped that it would mitigate the sufferings of the patients coming to healthcare institute.  The minister said the quality healthcare would be the “topmost priority” for his department. “If people come to you, they need to be treated well. They should feel the difference,” he said.

Taking a tour of the hospital, the minister said GB Pant hospital has shown a “positive” change as far as the sanitation was concerned. However he directed hospital authorities to make hospital services and health care easily available for the patients.

“Patients shouldn’t feel dejected after coming to this hospital. They should come happily and leave happily,” Mr Singh told the officials.The Minister also directed Medical Superintended, GB Pant Hospital, Dr Shafqat Khan to make necessary arrangements for providing quality healthcare to patients coming to the hospital.“Make sure patients coming to this hospital gets quality healthcare," he told the officials.The Minister was accompanied by Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Dr MK Bhandari, Principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar, Dr. Rafiq A. Pampori, Medical Superintendents of G B Pant Hospital, Dr Shafqat Khan,  senior pediatrician, Dr Kaiser Ahmad, among other officers and hospital staff.

Earlier the minister inaugurated 30-bed causality ward in the hospital. The minister expressed satisfaction that the renovated ward would benefit to strengthen the quality healthcare in the primary pediatric tertiary care hospital.During the visit, the Minister went around various wards and sections of the hospital including collection centre and newly launched hospital drug counter.He also interacted with the patients and their attendants and enquired about the status of the healthcare facilities being provided to the new born babies and other children undergoing treatment. He asked the doctors on duty to ensure that best possible medical attention is provided to patients.He directed the authorities to make start mother care services functional and also ensure that the patients get every medicine at the hospital drug counter.

The Minister also asked the hospital management to help facilitate free medical care and tests for all such patients who are poor and not in a position to bear the expenses.Asking authorities to ensure further improvement by providing modern facilities in every health institution of the State, the minister said that that government was maintaining health as the top most priority sector and people should be befitted at the government run hospitals. “People have expectations with us and we should come up to their expectations,” he said.  He said that hospitals across the valley will focus on providing special windows to the elderly population, which will ease out their sufferings.Mr Singh said government is putting all out efforts to further improvement system by providing infrastructure and human resource to rural and urban as well as the rural areas of the state. The minister lauded the role of consolidated and contractual staff for their services in the hospital.

He directed the Medical Superintendent to conduct frequent rounds to check cleanliness in the wards and other sections of the hospital. He also warned the staff against unauthorized absence from duties.Medical Superintendents of G B Pant Hospital, Dr Shafqat Khan said that the hospital has started drug counter where all medicines would be available for the patients at lesser prices. He said that on the directions of the Minister, the hospital authorities were also launching mother care services, where women would be treated for the deficiencies. (GNS)
