In an environment friendly move aimed at providing ‘green lungs’ to the residents of Amritsar city, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has given nod for developing 40 acres of vacant land in the heart of holy city as a ‘nature conservation park’. The Chief Minister has asked the Public Works Department to rope in the experts from the field of landscaping to design, execute and maintain the nature park on this land known as ’40 Khuh (wells)’ once used for catering to the needs of water in city during era of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He said that this land must be developed as a state of the art park on the lines of New York’s nature park. Mr. Badal said that the upcoming ‘nature conservation park’ would have inbuilt facilities and services like walking trail, botanical garden cafeteria, light and sound system and other to attract the public.

Underscoring the need to enhance the green cover in the holy city, the Chief Minister said that it would help in enhancing the beauty of this city besides protecting the urban populace from the scourge of the ever increasing pollution which causes respiratory diseases. He said that the haphazard growth in the cities have turned them into concrete jungles due to which the residents were becoming prone to a number of health ailments. Mr. Badal said that the best solution for all these problems was to enhance greenery in the cities which would not only give a serene and beautiful look to them but also considerably reduce the impact of pollution on humanity.

The Chief Minister asked the Chief Architect Punjab to personally visit the site for having first information about the entire chunk of land. He said that the PWD, district administration and Municipal Corporation Amritsar must work in tandem with each other to ensure that the site was properly cleaned for further developing it into an ultra modern park. “We must get into best brains from arena of landscaping to develop this site as an ultra modern park with an aura of natural bounty so as to give a unique gift to the residents of Amritsar city” added Mr. Badal.
