Japneet Kaur from Mohali is the sole Indian female amongst the 12 member world team for the expedition to Mt. Everest, world’s highest peak. The team has another Indian member, Rahul Kumar from Chattisgarh. The expedition is slated for the year 2016 but prior to it, as a part of the training the team will scale Mt. Elbrus, the highest peak of Europe. The training camp for the same is being organised in Russia from September4 to September22.The Education Minister of Punjab Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema and the former Union Minister Mr. Balwant Singh Ramoowalia today bade good bye to the brave Punjabi girl leaving for the training camp with the best wishes from all Punjabis and  handed her the National Flag as well as the flag having the slogan ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Parhao’.Overwhelmed with patriotic emotions, Japneet said that on conquering the Everest, she’ll hoist both the flags at the peak and prove to the world the power of Indian youth as well as give a message of women empowerment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Cheema said that it is indeed a matter of pride not only for Punjab but entire India that amongst the 12 member team for the expedition to Mt. Everest, the only Indian girl to qualify belongs to Mohali. Congratulating Japneet and extending best wishes to her, Dr. Cheema said that she is a source of inspiration for the nation especially the girls and appreciated her conviction to hoist the flag with Beti Bachao, Beti Parhao’ slogan on the world’s highest peak along with the National Flag. It may be recollected that Japneet had earlier scaled Bhagirath-3.
