For strengthening the level of education in the state, the Punjab education department would be recruiting a total of 11,700 teachers in the state. Out of these teachers, 4,000 would be for primary classes and 7,700 for secondary classes. A formal meeting in this regard has already been held and at this moment, the file regarding final approval is with the Punjab Chief Minister. This was informed by Punjab Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema after inaugurating a Government Primary School building in Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar, Gill Road, here today. He was accompanied by District Planning Board chairman Jathedar Hira Singh Gabria.

Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said that these teachers would be recruited on regular basis in a fair and transparent manner. The education minister said that the Punjab government would not do away with the Punjab State Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) and they are even mulling over the idea for holding entrance test for admission to ETT as well. While commenting on the issue of Associate Schools, Dr Cheema assured that no Associate School in the state would be closed down, provided they have well trained and well qualified staff. He said that the checking regarding these schools is going on at the moment and no school authorities would be harassed unnecessarily. "Our only motive of checking in these schools is that the teachers/staff there are well qualified and that the students of these schools are getting good quality education," said Dr Cheema.

Replying to a question related to poor school results, he said that 10 different teams consisting of senior education department staff were set up which carried out a survey by visiting several government schools. He said that the teachers of government schools would be trained from time to time so that their results improve.Dr Cheema said that the main aim of Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party led Punjab government is improving standard of education in the state. He said that Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal wants that the standard of education should be based on a solid foundation. He said that is why the Punjab government is now emphasising on strengthening primary education in schools.

On the occasion, Dr Cheema even interacted with the students and urged them to study hard so that they could succeed in life.Jathedar Hira Singh Gabria thanked Dr Cheema for approving a primary school in Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar area on Gill Road, here. He said that the file related to the primary school inaugurated today, was passed by Dr Cheema in a couple of days time only. Dr Cheema was also honoured by the area residents.Prominent among those present on the occasion included Councillor Mr Rakhwinder Singh Gabria, DEO (Secondary) Paramjit Kaur Chahal, DEO (Primary) Mr Gurjot Singh, besides several others.
