Felicitating the students, who qualified Higher Secondary Part Two examination meritoriously, Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar today said meritorious students, especially those from Government schools, have shown that government-run schools in the State can achieve better results. The Minister said the meritorious students have not only brought laurels to their schools but their families as well. “I would like to congratulate all successful students of both Government & Private institutions and the ones who have bagged the top positions, but due credit must go to the Government-run educational institutions, especially Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh and Government Girls Higher Secondary School Anantnag which have secured top positions in various streams,” he said and added that another heartening thing to note is that the top positions have been again bagged by girls. The Minister had a special word of appreciation for Basit Ahmad Khan of Zoistaan, a remote village in Tral. Khan has secured 476 marks and is studying at Government Higher Secondary School Satoora.

The Minister also felicitated other schools whose students have performed well in the results. He said the Education Department would reach out to well-performing government schools with additional facilities to encourage and motivate them to excel further in academics and have better results. In Arts and Home Science streams, the first three positions have been bagged by the students of government schools. Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothibagh and Government Girls Higher Secondary School Anantnag have bagged 1st and 2nd positions respectively, while as Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Vessu has got third position in Arts stream. Meanwhile, Government Girls Higher Secondary School Anantnag has secured 1st and 3rd positions and GGHSS Pulwama student emerged as second topper in Home Science stream.

Akhtar said government schools in the State have the ability to achieve better results; only thing needed is the motivation and encouragement, to bring about the much-needed turn around in the academic environment. The Minister said various initiatives are being taken by the Government to encourage excellence among the students.  Government’s main focus is to provide quality education and individual attention to students, he said. Akhtar said while the pass-percentage of Higher Secondary Part two examinations is around 55%, he would have liked it to be more than that.Pertinently, the examination was conducted by JKBOSE in the month of March-April this year.
