The criminal revision petition of jailed former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa for suspension of her sentence and bail was Tuesday adjourned to Oct 6 by the judge of a vacation bench of the Karnataka High Court here. After admitting the revision petition, Justice Rathnakala posted the bail plea to Oct 6 by a regular bench of the high court when it resumes after a week-long Dusshera holidays.A special court here Saturday convicted Jayalalithaa in the Rs.66-crore disproportionate assets case and sentenced her to four years' simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs.100 crore.Senior criminal lawyer Ram Jethmalani, who is representing Jayalalithaa in the case, sought interim relief immediately as since the sentence was less than of 10 years, she was entitled for bail. The judge said she could not consider the relief plea unless she heard counter arguments from the prosecution.

However, Special Public Prosecutor G. Bhavani Singh said he did not receive any communication to represent the state government in this case."I have no formal communication from the state government to appear before the vacation bench and argue on its behalf in the case," Singh told reporters outside the court premises.Singh also said he was yet to receive a certified copy of the 900-page judgment delivered by Special Judge John Michale D'Cunha Saturday."We are disappointed that the case has been postponed to Monday (Oct 6) on technical grounds," defence counsel told IANS outside the court premises.
