More Than 23,000 Poll Staff To Ensure That 18.15 Lakh Voters Could Decide Fate Of 19 Candidates

Stage was all set for the General Elections for the Jalandhar Parliamentary Seat as 18.15 lakh voters would decide the fate of 19 candidates who were in fray for the Lok Sabha seat.Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal, who sent the polling parties from the different centres today, said that there were 16,15, 171 voters in the district who would exercise their franchise in the polls. Out of the total voters 201712 were in Phillaur assembly segment, 190436 in Nakodar, 178231 in Shahkot, 177877 in Kartarpur, 162979 in Jalandhar West, 166002 in Jalandhar Central, 183855 in Jalandhar North, 190302 in Jalandhar Cantt and 163777 in Adampur assembly segment. They said that 8,41,845 male voters, 7,73,306 female voters and 20 third gender voters would cast their votes during the poll.The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that elaborate arrangements have been made for the Lok Sabha polls as around 23,000 employees from the civil and Police department has been assigned various duties. 

They said that 2329 polling parties have been deployed at 1863 polling booths of the district. The officers said that a total number of 9316 employees have been deputed as Presiding Officers (PRO), Alternate Presiding Officer (APRO) and Polling Officers (PO) for conducting the poll in a free, fair and transparent manner. The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police further said that an approximate of 600 Micro Observers have been deployed for the polling day across the district at 439 locations. Similarly they said that a large number of Police employees too have been pumped into service for these polls. The officers said that all the arrangements have been made to ensure that polling parties and voters were facilitated adding that adequate provision of furniture and potable drinking water would be ensured at the polling booths.The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said special provisions of wheelchairs, ramps, helpers and others would also be ensured at all the 1863 booths during the polling day on May 19  for the PWD voters. Meanwhile, they called upon the election staff to perform their duty diligently so that people were able to cast their vote independently.
