The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, V.P. Singh Badnore today launched the book titled A Critical Evolution of the Work Of Nek Chand's Rock Garden in Chandigarh written by Dr SS Bhatti, founder-teacher and former Principal, Chandigarh College of Architecture, at Punjab Raj Bhawan.Admiring the iconic creation of Sh. Nek Chand in the form of Rock Garden, the Governor said this amazing internationally acclaimed art work has brought Chandigarh on the World Map. He will always be remembered for his artistic and unique art work. The minute details carried in the book by Mr. Bhatti about the Rock Garden since its inception would make an interesting reading, added the Sh. Badnore.The book published by White Falcon Publishing is based on the author’s pioneer research for which The University of Queensland, Australia, had conferred on him the degree of Master of Architecture in 1983. It carries the measured drawings of the garden that he had prepared over 18 months, besides an insightful illustrated analysis and critical evaluation of Nek Chand’s versatile creativity grounded in Punjab’s folk art, architecture, and construction methods.Dr Bhatti undertook his research work on the Rock Garden way back in 1975 soon after his first visit had bowled him with a self-taught artist’s holistic vision and refreshing creativity exposure to which was a pleasant surprise for him as India’s pioneer researcher and teacher of architecture and allied disciplines.The Book talks about Nek Chand’s holistic approach to problems of planning, architecture, environment conservation, rainwater management, sculpture, and construction methods by inspired creativity, intuitive innovation, and skilful improvisation.Introducing the book-launch programme Kapil Setia, Chief Architect, Chandigarh Administration, said that Dr SS Bhatti is the highest qualified architect and most versatile professional in the country. 1,000 architects taught by him have made outstanding contribution to nation-building through an incredible diversity of vocations with architecture, the great mother art, as the launching ground. Navsangeet Bahga, Director, White Falcon Publishing, in her thanks-giving speech, said that publishing over a dozen of Dr Bhatti’s books has been her richest experience among several hundred titles published by her company. She would love to continue her company’s association with Dr Bhatti to learn many new things from his amazing versatile creativity, she added. Many of Dr. Bhatti's students and colleagues attended the book launch.
