In continuance with Prime Minister’s 'Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rohit Khajuria today commenced the sanitation campaign in rural and urban areas of the district here today. The campaign will conclude on October 2nd on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti.The campaign would be jointly conducted by Municipal Bodies, Rural Development, Education and Social Welfare Departments besides Banks operating in the district.Speaking on the occasion, the DC emphasized on building capacities of stakeholders and sanitation workers, prominent citizens, Anganwadi workers and SHG members under Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU).He further called for roping in the civil society members including women, social workers and students to achieve laid down milestones.
“Cleanliness and hygiene are important aspects of everyone`s life so it is important that the campaign shall ensure people`s representation at the grassroots level i.e. at the village, block and district level,” DC asserted. He further added that building IHHL is the means to achieve the goal of ODF but clean and healthy surroundings can be achieved only by mass awareness and continuous motivation.Special focus shall be laid on cleaning iconic and tourist places including Lakhanpur – the gateway of J&K, he maintained.The DC also stressed on holding regular information, education and communication activities to spread awareness among all stakeholders about the personal hygiene and cleanliness in the surroundings.Earlier, a pledge was also administered among the participants regarding personal hygiene and sanitation.ADC, ADDC, ACD, ACR, DyDEO, CPO, BDOs and other officers were present on the occasion.
