Gurpreet Singh Kangar, Minister for Power and New &Renewable Energy Sources, Punjab, handed over appointment letters on compassionate ground to 153 dependents of those employees of PSPCL who had died in service, at Bathinda.Speaking on the occasion, S. Kangar said that as per Punjab Government’s commitment of ‘A job for each home’ made by, appointment letters for 1889 different posts in PSPCL have been issued so far while 300 more appointment letters are in pipeline.  He added that approval has been given and action started for fresh recruitment at 488 posts in PSPCL. “More jobs would be created in future as well”, said he.S. Gurpreet Singh Kangar further told that in spite of State’s power demand touching a record high of 12556 MW and the electricity consumption reaching 2745 lakh units, the farmers are being supplied uninterrupted8 hours power daily and no category of electricity consumers is facing any power cut. For this, he appreciated the CMD of PSPCL, Er. Baldev Singh Sra and his team.On this occasion, the CMD of PSPCL, Er. Baldev Singh Sra told that for high-quality power supply in Punjab, action has been initialized to install new 800 MW Thermal Plant Units with supercritical technology at Ropar. He further said that Rs. 330 Crore would be spent on 105 rural towns with population more than 5000, so that aggregate technical and commercial losses come down. 

Also an amount of Rs. 252.06 Crore has been approved for feeder segregation and up-gradation of power supply to rural consumers in 20 districts. Er. Sra added that up to March 31st, 2019, old electricity appliances would be replaced with 50 lakh LED lamps, 1 lakh high-efficiency fans and 50 thousand LED tube lights.  During 2018-19, scheme has been made to reinforce transmission lines and sub-stations. Under this scheme, 16 No. new Grid Sub-Stations would be constructedand 105 No. already running transformers would be up-graded.  This year, extra 1371 MVA transformer capacity would be added and 800 KMlength of new transmission lines would be laid.  All this would incur an expenditure of about Rs. 850 Crore, for which approval of Regulatory Commission would be obtained.On this occasion, Sh.  R.P. Pandov, Director (Admin.), PSPCL told that till date all the cases of providing jobs to the dependents of the employees of PSPCL, who had died in service, had been cleared. Since 2010 till date, 3057 such persons have been handed over appointment letters.In this function, among others, Er. Kuldeep Garg, Chief Engineer, Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant, Bathinda, Er, Lakhwinder Singh, Chief Engineer, Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant, LehraMohabbat and Er. Bhagwan Singh Matharu, Chief Engineer/Distribution,West Zone, Bathinda participated and a large gathering of PSPCL officers and employees was present.
