Minister for Education Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today chaired meeting of the Academic Council of Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Mathematical Science and approved a range of proposals brought in by the JKMIS management.The meeting was attended Principal Secretary Higher Education, Dr Asgar Samoon by the V-C Kashmir University Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, VC Islamic University of science and Technology, Prof Mushtaq Siddique, Director JKIMS and other faculty members.The Minister underlined the need for making available standard facilities and creating a research oriented environment in the prestigious institute.The Minister with the consensus of other members approved various agenda points including upgrading of existing infrastructure including building as required after the admission of second batch, hostel facility for non-local students, approval of budget framing for the year 2017-18 and revised estimates for 2018-019. The recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff besides fee structure, syllabus for five-year integrated course, initiation of research work and holding teacher training at school level, higher secondary level and college level also came up for discussion.However, the Minister took serious note of poor functioning of JKIMS sub-office Jammu and asked the concerned to furnish a detail of the expenditure incurred for past three years. He said that the money meant for students should be utilized optimally and judiciously and wished to discuss the issue with the concerned in a separate meeting.
