The Delhi High Court Wednesday dismissed a plea seeking directions to the CBI to register a case of cheating and corruption against former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on charges of misleading the people by making "false promises".Acting Chief Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Sidharth Mridul asked advocate M.L. Sharma, who filed the public interest litigation (PIL), to lodge a police complaint instead if he desired."File an FIR for cheating if you want. Who is stopping you? Don't make everything a PIL. It is not in the interest of the public," the bench said while refusing to entertain the plea."There is nothing to prevent petitioner as a member of the public to go to police and lodge an FIR... Accordingly, we dismiss this writ petition."The PIL was filed against Kejriwal, former education minister Manish Sisodia and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).The plea alleged that they misled people by making "false promises" in the AAP election manifesto in a bid to enjoy power. The plea asked the court to decide whether making false declarations in the election manifesto to secure votes amounted to cheating and criminal breach of trust.
