Minister for Information Technology, Technical Education and Youth Service & Sports, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari today inaugurated maiden e-Prison Project at State Data Centre, Civil Secretariat Jammu. The project is being implemented by J&K e-Governance Agency.Principal Secretary Home Raj Kumar Goyal, Director General of Police S P Vaid, Director General of Prisons, P K Mishra, CEO J&K e-Governance Agency, Saadut Hussain and various other officials were present on the occasion.Ansari said the information about jail inmates is currently being maintained manually and in order to avoid delays in processing the information and manage all the jails efficiently, the automation of Prison department has been started to reduce the time-consuming process. He said so far data of 5000 inmates has been digitized which is available on National Prison Information Portal of Government of India.Minister said the e-Prison Project will digitize 25 district jails, two central jails and one sub-Jail across the State.On the occasion, Minister was informed that the generic infrastructure for jails and prison headquarters includes Router, Switch, Laser Printer, Scanner, Desktops, UPS, Finger Print scanner and Web camera.

The Minister was informed that in Second Phase of the Project, the department will focus on video conferencing between Jails and Prison Headquarters, e-Court, Tele-medication in Jails.Ansari directed the concerned for submitting a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the allocation of funds to make further advancements in the e-Prison Project to digitalize the data and to enhance connectivity between Jails and other Headquarters of the state.The Minister inspected different sections of the NIC center including Conference Room, Server Room, Internet section and software development section and took stock of various arrangements put in place at NIC.On the occasion, Technical team presented Power Point Presentation (PPT) and a live demonstration before the Minister demonstrating how e-Prison Project functions and informed the Minister that NIC helps to connect jails via NIC Network to National Prison Information Portal for Data Digitalization of Inmates.The Minister was also informed that the Jammu and Kashmir e-Governance Agency has successfully completed the integration of all feasible sites to digitalize the data of inmates.Ansari appreciated the department for various innovative steps being taking under e-Governance to improve the connectivity between Jails and Prison Headquarters. The Minister also directed the concerned authorities for taking steps for further updating the project.
