DGP pays homage to martyrs, recalls their valour

Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S.P Vaid has said that sports develop an ability to face adversity with poise and dignity besides enthusing a spirit of patriotism and sportsmanship among the youth.Dr. Vaid was speaking at the closing ceremony of 7th Police Martyrs Memorial Cricket Championship at Kathua this afternoon.The tournament was earlier inaugurated by the DGP in which 16 teams from the State and north India besides Indian Air Force and Indian Army participated.Dr.Vaid said that JKP is organizing various tournaments in the state every year in the memory of its martyrs who laid down their lives for bringing peace and normalcy in the State. The force, besides its professional duties is promoting sports culture in the state in order to imbibe a spirit of patriotism and sportsmanship among the youth. Logistic support to the talented youngsters is being provided to hone their skills in the field of sports, said the DGP.

Dr. Vaid appreciated the efforts of the people and local industrialists who organise the championship annually to pay homage to police martyrs. He asked the civil society to organise such activities on regular basis so as to inspire youth to channelize their energies in a positive way. He also lauded the participating teams, who have shown their interest in the unique kind of tourney.On the occasion, DGP paid floral tributes to the martyres and recalled their valour and supreme sacrifices. He interacted with the families of martyrs and distributed gifts among them. Sabbi Cricket Club Hoshiarpur lifted the championship by defeating Khanna Cricket Club Jagraun in the final match. DGP felicitated the teams and players and thanked them for displaying standards of discipline during the championship.Among others, the closing ceremony was attended by IGP Jammu Danesh Rana, DIG JKS Range AA Wani, DC Ramesh Kumar, SSP Pawan Parihar, prominent industrialist, families of martyrs and a large number of people.
